Last Night I Played Kickball in Rainboots

Last night I went to Adam’s kickball game, and after 8 straight days of monsoon rainstorms I felt like wearing pink plaid rainboots was totally appropriate. As we walked out the door Adam nonchalantly said “what if you have to play…” I laughed and replied “Oh I WONT play.”(Just for clarification, I am NOT athletic, never have been, I’m clumsy and totally awkward… sports, not so much my thing.) So that was that and we were off to the field. When we arrived I nervously glanced around at all of Adam’s teammates, there were only three girls… uh oh.  But a few minutes later as one more girl walked up to the field I breathed a sigh of relief… surely I won’t have to play now; until I was informed that the team needed at least 5 girls to play… so I waited… no one else showed up. CRAP! I had no choice. I must play kickball…in my rainboots (FYI I’ve never played kickball before… with or without rainboots.) As a compromise I was told I wouldn’t have to actually kick the ball… I just had to be the catcher, which basically meant standing behind home plate and throwing back whatever ball didn’t actually get kicked. Ok, not so bad... right? The first inning or so went by without a hitch. Until the first ball that the other team chose not to kick. I stood there and watched the ball roll right past me… “oops that’s totally me!” I ran after the ball, in my rainboots… then threw the ball back to the pitcher (p.s. I can’t throw, this has nothing to do with my rainboots.) After chasing a few more balls, I sort of got the hang of it. Make sure you get in FRONT of the ball so it can’t roll past you, thus no chasing after it. GENIUS! After a few brutal innings our team was slaughtered. Which by the way when I mentioned this in the car Adam said “we didn’t get slaughtered we lost 19 to 5”… Oh my bad. (Side note, did I mention we were playing the hardest team in the league? They even had a team manager complete with fold up chair, clip on golf umbrella, and a clipboard for keeping stats, really dude its kickball!) (Side note number 2, Adam's team is actually pretty good, I think they're the 2nd best team in the league, they just had an off day... and I suppose I didn't really help their cause.)  Anyway, all in all I had fun, and next week just in case they absolutely need me I’ll probably wear tennis shoes and appropriate athletic attire, I’ll still be awful but at least I won’t look quite as ridiculous.

Have a great weekend everyone!

P.S.Thanks to Adam's team the Pow Pow Ninja Mountain Maters for not making fun of me and being totally supportive! You guys are the best. :)

P.P.S For those of you who thought I was totally exaggerating about my rainboots, I've posted a picture of them below. Followed by some great quotes.

See totally cute, but not so good for playing sports!
