I Hate the Grocery Store, No Really I Do

So I should probably start this post off with a disclaimer… I have an amazing husband, he is seriously the best, he puts up with “my crazy” like no one else could… And I love him very very much. That being said, I hate grocery shopping with him. Actually I think I just hate grocery shopping. Every time we go I seem to get upset and irritated with Adam. It’s not ALL his fault. I set myself up for it. But honestly I HATE it, no exaggerating here. I think we should start going to the store separately but that would equal me getting crazy fat and us going broke… yes all because of groceries.

We probably go to the grocery store about every 2 weeks or so. And we wait until we are seriously out of everything, and every time we go we spend an outrageous amount of money. So this is where all the stress of the trip stems from, anything not on our original list is going to cost even more. Add that to doing our best to make “healthy choices” and not buying any junk food and we have a recipe for disaster. This leads me to our grocery run on Monday night. Our first little “hiccup” started with salmon, I asked Adam if we should get some salmon, I think he simply said, nah it’s too expensive. (He says this every time by the way.) So my inner monologue went something like this “so what if the salmon is $8.00 a pound I really want to make it for dinner. No I’ve never made it and yes it could go incredibly wrong and we could totally end up wasting that money, but I want it ok? Get off my back.” (We totally didn’t end up buying the salmon…)  A few isles later we are getting along, we agree on the basics, milk, creamer, etc. I get a little irritated when Adam grabs the bread that is “not my favorite” but keep it to myself. Then we hit the frozen food isle… this is where our trip usually falls apart, dang you Lean Cuisine! A little background here, Adam’s office is right by our house, so most days he is able to go home and make whatever he wants for lunch. I work roughly 30 minutes away (on a good day) so no going home for me, I need to bring my lunch with me every day or eat out. Eating out every day = lots of calories and far too much money, so my preference is to have things like Lean Cuisines and sandwiches handy for lunch. Lean Cuisines use to be my fav, lots of great options, not too pricy and great on calories… until they upped their prices. Don’t get me wrong we can afford Lean Cuisines, but things add up and for some reason every time we make it to this isle we both end up really upset with each other. Adam usually says something like jeeze $3.00 each do you really need them, and in my head I say “so what if they are $3.00 each, this is soooo much better than me spending $6.00+ every day on eating out! I’m totally saving us money!” No I don’t say this out loud instead I choose to just be angry and not express my feelings. I grab the least expensive meals, the ones that don’t fill me up and aren’t nearly as yummy as the others and storm out of the isle. Adam can’t read my mind so he’s left standing there wondering what on earth I’m so upset about. Several more isles, and a few more unfriendly budget and calorie filled item no goes later and I’m mad. When we checkout we still spend an obscene amount of money (ok not obscene but still!) and I’m left fuming thinking that I should have just bought what I wanted anyway, it wouldn’t have made that big of a difference! Right? And I never argue with him about what HE wants! Cue silent car ride home. Now at this point you are probably thinking I need therapy and well you are probably right, but hey at the time I totally feel like this is appropriate behavior.

Now these little fights never last long. We’re usually over it in no time, but I still HATE going grocery shopping, and until we are millionaires and someone has invented some amazing pill that will allow me to eat chocolate ice cream every day and never gain a pound I probably always will.

 xoxo ~ Jamie

P.S. Even though I never say it and next time we are at the store I will probably regret it and/or forget all about it: Thank you Adam. Without you I would be broke and 300 pounds.

Kisses & Disses

One of my FAVORITE blogs has a reoccurring feature on it called Kisses & Disses, and I love it, so I'm going to steal it.... Lol I figure everything in Blog Land is just a form of what someone else, somewhere else is doing anyway... right? Ok so here is the basic concept... just a little place to list things that I love, and things that I'm not too fond of. Fairly simple... so here we go!

Kisses:
  1. Starbucks Seasonal Lattes & Frappuccinos! Love them! I swear every season they come out with another amazing little seasonal drink that I'm obsessed with! Fall is my fav with their yummy Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but I had their coconut something or another frappuccino the other day and it was amazing.... and yes I am aware that these drinks have as many calories as a full on meal but I dont really care, they are just sooo good!

Mocha Coconut Frappuccino

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - Saw it this weekend and I LOVED it. Yes I am a Harry Potter nerd... yes I read all the books and have seen all the movies, and yes I actually think they did a really good job with the final movie. Loved loved loved it! I especially loved dragging Adam along, there is nothing he loves more than a little Harry Potter on opening day with a hundred + teenie boppers running around. Priceless... sorry babe :)

    1. Shutterfly Photobooks- I ordered two more Shutterfly albums and they arrive tomorrow! I am sooooooo excited to see them! Shutterfly always does an amazing job and I love that I can make gorgeous albums for less than it would cost to simply print all the photos and put them in my own album. Love it!

        Disses:
        1.  Two Day Weekends... yes  I realize this is the majority of weekends.... But during the summer a mere two days is just not long enough to accomplish all that we have going on! We had an awesome weekend in the Springs, full of fishing, a trip to the zoo, walking around the Olympic Training Center, lots of fun with the family and tons of yummy food. But unfortunately we sill have lots of stuff we NEED to get done that is still waiting... We need to go grocery shopping, the laundry has once again piled up, and we have several projects around the house we would still like to finish... but now Monday is here and we are exhausted... BOOOOO!
        2. Mean Customer Service Reps- For those of you who don't know a large portion of my job is customer service. Because of this I have to deal with a lot of customer service reps and I swear my tolerance for bad customer service has plummeted! It's not that hard people, you are getting paid to do this, you may hate your job but that is not my problem, put on a smile, answer my question and no your particular brand of sarcasm is not appreciated!  I swear I'm not an idiot, and I consider myself pretty good at interpreting what other people are saying, but no I don't speak ebonics and I truly believe that if I am calling an American company you should have someone there that speaks English fluently! Am I asking too much?
        3. Monday Morning Traffic- What is it about Monday mornings that makes traffic so awful? It's just another day... do people really just lose their minds on Mondays and decide to tailgate, cut people off and cause accidents that make  my commute a total headache? Every other day during the week doesn't seem to be so bad but Mondays are always horrible!
In summary I guess I'm just not a big fan of Mondays! Lol, but hey it's been a quiet day at work so I guess I can't complain too much! Have a great week everyone! :)

And here are a few quotes to start your week of right!

Last Night I Played Kickball in Rainboots

Last night I went to Adam’s kickball game, and after 8 straight days of monsoon rainstorms I felt like wearing pink plaid rainboots was totally appropriate. As we walked out the door Adam nonchalantly said “what if you have to play…” I laughed and replied “Oh I WONT play.”(Just for clarification, I am NOT athletic, never have been, I’m clumsy and totally awkward… sports, not so much my thing.) So that was that and we were off to the field. When we arrived I nervously glanced around at all of Adam’s teammates, there were only three girls… uh oh.  But a few minutes later as one more girl walked up to the field I breathed a sigh of relief… surely I won’t have to play now; until I was informed that the team needed at least 5 girls to play… so I waited… no one else showed up. CRAP! I had no choice. I must play kickball…in my rainboots (FYI I’ve never played kickball before… with or without rainboots.) As a compromise I was told I wouldn’t have to actually kick the ball… I just had to be the catcher, which basically meant standing behind home plate and throwing back whatever ball didn’t actually get kicked. Ok, not so bad... right? The first inning or so went by without a hitch. Until the first ball that the other team chose not to kick. I stood there and watched the ball roll right past me… “oops that’s totally me!” I ran after the ball, in my rainboots… then threw the ball back to the pitcher (p.s. I can’t throw, this has nothing to do with my rainboots.) After chasing a few more balls, I sort of got the hang of it. Make sure you get in FRONT of the ball so it can’t roll past you, thus no chasing after it. GENIUS! After a few brutal innings our team was slaughtered. Which by the way when I mentioned this in the car Adam said “we didn’t get slaughtered we lost 19 to 5”… Oh my bad. (Side note, did I mention we were playing the hardest team in the league? They even had a team manager complete with fold up chair, clip on golf umbrella, and a clipboard for keeping stats, really dude its kickball!) (Side note number 2, Adam's team is actually pretty good, I think they're the 2nd best team in the league, they just had an off day... and I suppose I didn't really help their cause.)  Anyway, all in all I had fun, and next week just in case they absolutely need me I’ll probably wear tennis shoes and appropriate athletic attire, I’ll still be awful but at least I won’t look quite as ridiculous.

        Have a great weekend everyone!
        Xoxo ~Jamie

P.S.Thanks to Adam's team the Pow Pow Ninja Mountain Maters for not making fun of me and being totally supportive! You guys are the best. :)

P.P.S For those of you who thought I was totally exaggerating about my rainboots, I've posted a picture of them below. Followed by some great quotes.

See totally cute, but not so good for playing sports!

        Happiness Is...

When I look back at my life I'm struck by how often I find happiness in the smallest moments. Seriously it’s not the big, grand, expensive moments (although trust me those can be good too!) But the days when we just don’t have much going on. The moments of stillness that aren’t jam packed with places to go and people to see. One of my favorite things to do with Adam is simply sit back and listen to music, all kinds of music. We don’t get to do this nearly enough anymore, but I have so many amazing memories throughout our relationship that involve music, laughter, and sometimes tears.

In college we would escape parties at Adam’s house, sit at his computer and just listen to great songs. We would chat, we would laugh, but mostly we would listen and we would just be there, together. After college, when we first moved in together, we would play cards and listen to music instead of going out. And while we were planning our wedding we didn’t really get swept up in the details. It was just planning another big party, until the day we sat down to pick out our music. We sat in the living room and listened to song after song, everything from Classic Rock, to Country, to Rap, until we found the ones that somehow touched us. I can so vividly remember the moment She is Love by Parachute started to play. Suddenly the wedding, our upcoming marriage, and our future became so real. I bawled, no seriously I think I blubbered like a baby. Adam laughed, held me and then we decided that this song had to be a part of our wedding day, so we used it as our cake cutting song. I don’t know that I even heard the song as we cut our cake on the big day, but I’ll always remember that day, in our living room and She is Love will probably always make me cry.

But again, life has carried us away and these moments have become fewer and fewer. Obligations, work, family, friends, play, and well just life seem to distract us from these “little moments.” So as my 2nd wedding anniversary approaches I just want to make a vow to myself and to my husband that we don’t lose these moments; that we make time for “music dates” and moments of stillness. Because happiness really is found in the smallest moments.
