Operation Organization Part 1- Master Closet

So let me start off by saying that I am pretty OCD. I like my house clean, things put away, nothing on the floor, freshly vacuumed, and no dust in site. I hate clutter and I cannot go to bed with dishes in the sink... BUT, what I can't see doesn't bug me! So while our house may seem clean, secretly tucked away in closets and drawers is mayhem! And lately I have felt like the disaster in our closets, desks and dresser drawers has been begging for me to clean it! So after being inspired by other bloggers I decided to go on an organization "binge" around the house. And since I was inspired by another blogger I thought I would share my progress here in hopes of inspiring someone else!

So anyway first stop was my closet! Our master closet is fairly small so trying to get organized in here was really tricky! My first step was to purge! Go through all my clothes, shoes, purses, etc. and get rid of anything I no longer needed. This process took forever and resulted in several large garbage bags full of donation items! (Which by the way are still sitting in my guestroom waiting to be dropped off at a Goodwill or something... Oops!)

Here are a few pictures of the closet before...

Way too crowded, purses piled on top of each other, and just a big mess!

Hats piled high and more purses and junk shoved on shelves.

Way too many shoes, all piled in together.

Messy closet floor with boots, sweatshirts and laundry all mixed together.

The back of the closet door and wall behind the door. Blank useless space.

Next step was shopping! No not shopping for more clothes and shoes to replace the things I got rid of (although that would have been much more exciting!) Instead I went to Goodwill, Hobby Lobby and King Soopers in search of a few items for storage and organization. Thankfully I stopped at Goodwill first and hit the jackpot! Baskets and little canisters for organizing galore! After that all I need was a few command hooks which I found at King Soopers and I was good to go!

A few of the supplies I found to help get organized! Baskets, pen holders, little buckets, and tin canisters.

Lastly I just needed to take the time to put it all together. I added command hooks to the back of the door, the wall behind the door and on the side of the shelves. This was a great way to utilize otherwise useless space. I added a large basket to the floor of the closet to hold my boots that were too large for the shelves. And finally I stuffed my favorite Coach purses with empty grocery bags so they would stand up straight, keeping their shape, taking up less space, and serving as a bit of a decoration for the closet. Voila I had a brand new closet with more space to hang things and a much more organized feel. I love it!

Here are a few pictures of the finished product!

Command hooks on the back of the closet door holds my belt holder and command hooks on the wall hold sweatshirts and PJ's. The door still opens perfectly and leaves plenty of room in the closet.

A large $5 basket from Goodwill holds my large boots.

Command hooks on the shelves to hold my longer necklaces.

Belts hung on the back of the door. And a large pink bag hanging from the handle holds all my scarfs.

Purses stuffed with grocery bags

Nice clean top of the closet

I have a bit more work to do in here but I'm happy with the progress I've made. Check back soon to see how I tackled our laundry room, desk, and guestroom closet! In the meantime here are a few quotes since I am seriously behind on posting these!

xoxo~ Jamie
