First stop our little laundry room... or uh, laundry closet is probably a bit more appropriate. Our laundry "closet" is upstairs, which I love! It makes doing laundry much more convenient. But it's also tiny. Hence the term closet instead of room. Along with the usual washer, dryer, ironing board, and detergent the closet is also a catch all for things like our sewing kit, fans, light bulbs and whatever else we decide to shove in there. So basically it's a mess. There isn't a whole lot I can do with this space but I gave it my best shot. Here's a look at the before pictures...
This was actually on a good day...
No piles of laundry needing to be done, or clean clothes hanging up to dry.
No piles of laundry needing to be done, or clean clothes hanging up to dry.
I strategically cropped out the washer & dryer so you couldn't see how dirty they were. :)
So basically, all I did here was pull out all the junk, sort through it, throw away light bulbs, etc. that no longer work and then cleaned like a mad woman. Scrubbing the washer, dryer and the shelf. Then after my quick trip to Goodwill I sorted through all the baskets I purchased and used them to organize all the "stuff" that needed to go back into the laundry closet. So here is how the laundry room looks now...
Nice, clean ,and organized, everything has it's place!
I feel like I'm far from done in here but this should work for now. I would LOVE to add cabinets and a little bar for hanging clothes instead of this little shelf, but that's a much bigger project for another day... But I want it to look something like this! Brooklyn Limestone Blog, Guest Post Laundry Closet Much better right?!?!
Next stop was my dresser... I'll save you from the lovely pictures of tangled jewelry, piles of unfolded T-shirts, and sweatpants shoved into corners and get straight to the point. My dresser was pretty unruly... and mostly because I'm a hoarder of comfy T-Shirts and baggy sweatpants. So my biggest task was to purge. Get rid of old T-shirts and make more space for a well organized dresser. No big tips or tricks here, I simply got rid of the unnecessary items and nicely refolded all the shirts, shorts, etc that I just couldn't part with.
The exciting part (I know it's organizing how exciting can it be? But seriously I'm kind of enjoying this!) came when I organized my jewelry drawer... no before picture here because well I forgot and it was chaos! But basically I sorted through it all, purged a ton of chunky hot pink jewelry that I probably had since high school, threw away anything that was broken or had no match, laid out a piece of "Grip-It Shelf and Drawer liner" and went to work laying it all out nicely using earrings cards and small boxes. I also purchased a really cute dish to place on top of the dresser to hold the jewelry I wear on a daily basis. Here are a few pictures of the final result!
Nice organized Jewelry drawer complete with Grip-It liner
on the bottom to keep everything from moving all over the place.
Cute black dish on top of the dresser to hold my everyday jewelry.
A little bit of a blurry close up of the dish. Love this thing, keeps my jewelry handy without
Roxy being able to knock everything off onto the floor!
So there you have it, a couple small projects around the house that will make your life just a little easier and keep you organized! Stay tuned for that awful guestroom closet!
xoxo~ Jamie
And of course a few fun quotes!
